Treasure Falls

In Pagosa Springs, the name comes from Treasure Mountain where legend has it, this spot once held buried gold. The trail requires a short uphill hike, right outside of town and is easily accessible from Highway 160. If you are in the middle of a road trip, stopping to see this waterfall is ideal.

Zapata Falls

In Mosca, hidden in the San Luis Valley, finding this fall requires a half-mile, uphill hike. It is located down the road from the Great Sand Dunes and provides a great way to blend cool waterfalls with hot sands. There are scenic camping options, and it is recommended to visit in the early spring/summer months (between May and June) when the water range is the most intense.

Box Canyon Falls

In Ouray, the “Switzerland of America,” thousands of gallons of water spill over the falls each minute, and thunder loudly down the quartzite, 100-foot walls. Most of the trails are easy but if you are looking for a unique view over-top of the falls, take the High Bridge Trail that is 200-foot elevation and gives you the aerial view of the area that is definitely worth witnessing.

Cornet Creek Falls

In Telluride, with steep, narrow trails you can see Cornet Creek Falls. Although short the trail can be tricky with the loose-gravel, so make sure you wear good shoes and have clear footing. It is one of the most popular hikes in Telluride, an hour-long round trip, which makes it a nice adventure pretty much any time of day.
